A rich history of Catholic Education is valued by the parishes of St. Francis de Sales and St. James located in the West 7th Street Neighborhood of St. Paul. In 1884 St. Francis de Sales School opened its doors to 134 students, the children of immigrants from Hungary, Austria and Germany. Irish immigrants established St. James parish just three years later and opened its own school in 1913. These two schools were the heart and soul of each church community for nearly 100 years. With the decline in population, the two schools were consolidated in 1988.
Today St. Francis-St. James United School has a kindergarten through
8th grade program. We have moved back to the St. James site. We offer a full curriculum, which includes Religion, Physical Education, Music, Band, Computers/Technology, and Art. St. Francis-St. James United School's athletic program is considered one of the best in our community, offering basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, and volleyball. We also provide various after school programs including Chess Club, Book Club, and Bowling Leagues as well as individual academic tutoring. Other activities include the yearbook staff, the Student Council, scouting programs, Mass servers, and school patrols.
We are proud of our solid academics taught in a faith-based environment. For over 120 years we have been preparing young people for a life based on Christian principals, which is the foundation of our school. Come visit us and see if you don't agree…we are the finest little school in the West 7th Neighborhood.
Welcome!
