The kindergarten curriculum emphasizes social and emotional
development and expands the students' knowledge of their environment,
as much as teach academic skills.
In the area of reading/language arts, we use the Houghton Mifflin Series.
It uses a wide variety of literature, alpha friends for letter recognition
and sounds, sight words, word families and practice books that build a
solid foundation for learning to read and write.
In the area of mathematics, we use The Math Their Way Program. This is
a hands-on approach to learning numbers, counting, patterning, graphing,
estimating, sorting and beginning adding and subtracting.
In the area of religion, we use the I Am Special Kindergarten Religion
Program. This includes stories, songs, dramatizations, finger plays, sensory
activities, Scripture and prayer.
In the area of science, we use the McGraw-Hill Series. It covers Life
Science, plants and animals, Earth Science, earth and weather and seasons,
Physical Science, five senses and making things move.
Through the use of play and a rich, meaningful balanced curriculum of
skills and age-appropriate activities we encourage children to want to
learn.
