Library

We have a primary school library for students of grades K-4.  Each class visits the library once a week where the main focus is to encourage students to love reading.  This year students have been introduced to Accelerated Reader where all students have taken on-line testing to determine comprehension and vocabulary skills.  Students are then choosing books at their skill level and will be tested on the completion of reading the book.  Our hopes will be that all students exceed one year in growth in reading vocabulary and understanding.

Students in grades 1-8 are enjoying another year visiting the St. Paul Public Library Book Mobile.  The Library on wheels visits every other Monday where students can use their public library card to check out books of their choice.

Middle school students have access to the book mobile and classroom libraries for their reading enjoyment.  They too are participants in the Accelerated Reading Program.

Computer

Computer

SFSJUS has two fully equipped computer labs, one for the primary students and a newly equipped lab for the middle school students.  Students in grades K-4 receive computer instruction once a week by Mrs. Tschida, and the middle school students use technology throughout the curriculum, from Math through Religion.

All students in grades 2-8 will use technology as means of standardized testing through Learnia.  Learnia is an on-line standardized used by many Archdiocesan Schools.  Students are tested in spring fall and spring and periodically throughout the school year in Reading and Math.  During the 2008 school year students will also be assessed in Social Studies and Science.
