 Kindergartent class at SFSJUS

The kindergarten curriculum emphasizes social and emotional development and expands the students' knowledge of their environment, as much as teach academic skills.

In the area of reading/language arts, we use the Houghton Mifflin Series. It uses a wide variety of literature, alpha friends for letter recognition and sounds, sight words, word families and practice books that build a solid foundation for learning to read and write.

In the area of mathematics, we use The Math Their Way Program. This is a hands-on approach to learning numbers, counting, patterning, graphing, estimating, sorting and beginning adding and subtracting.

In the area of religion, we use Call to Faith, Harcourt Religion. The lessons help children engage their own faith and live their faith in their community.  Through the use of age appropriate activities, prayers, scripture stories and songs the children have a meaningful experience.

In the area of science, we use the McGraw-Hill Series. It covers Life Science, plants and animals, Earth Science, earth and weather and seasons, Physical Science, five senses and making things move.

Through the use of play and a rich, meaningful balanced curriculum of skills and age-appropriate activities we encourage children to want to learn.
