St. Francis-St. James United School Chess Club
Chess Club started again this fall. The group meets on Tuesdays from 2:35-3:30 in the St Francis Social Hall. Students in grades 2-8 are invited to attend. The group meets to learn about Chess and have some friendly competition. We also hope to have some tournament play. If you are interesting in joining or volunteering, please call the school office at 228-1167.

Chess News
The 10th annual Governor's Cup held October 28-30, 2005, in Sioux Falls, SD, attracted over 100 players from all over the world. Sean Higgins, St. Francis-St. James class of 2005, went undefeated in the Reserve Section with three wins and a draw, all against higher rated opponents. Sean's final draw with Jim Rosenberger assured him of a tie for third place.
Grandmaster Jaan Ehlvest of Estonia, once rated among the top five players in the world, was leading the tournament's Open Section. The $10,000 prize fund attracted four Grandmasters and two International Masters.
The Governor's Cup will be held next October in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
