Art is an integral part of the curriculum for all the grade levels. Students come to understand the visual elements and the principles of art through lesson plans. They discover new ideas and skills to express themselves. By experiencing various art activities, they exercise their power of observation, their problem-solving skills and the creative spark of the imagination!
The Art Adventure Program, in collaboration with the Mpls. Institute of Arts has been a part of our school art experience for ten years now. Parent volunteers are trained by the MIA to use reproductions of artworks from the museum, in the classrooms. The theme-based collections introduce our students to art works from many time periods and promote curiosity, investigation and appreciation of diverse cultures. Because the sets are based on popular children’s themes and represent a broad spectrum of cultures, eras and media, they readily complement existing social studies, language arts, science and math curricula. The students then have an opportunity to visit the museum either with their class or as part of the Family Art Adventure Night sponsored by the Home and School Association.
