Toddler Room Program Plan

| A. | Sandcastle Child Care hours are 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, 12 months a year. We provide age appropriate experiences, with one to six or seven ratio. | ||||
| B. | Children are supervised at all times by a qualified staff person. Staff interact with the children during play and activities while providing age-appropriate learning experience for each child's physical, intellectual, social, and emotional developmental needs in a loving, caring environment. | ||||
| C. | Our program is arranged to accommodate children individually, in small groups, and larger groups, to facilitate a wide variety of activities and experiences. Staff encourage child-selected activities and experiences, while required participation in group activities is limited. | ||||
| B. | Our staff seek the following goals for each Toddler in the program: | ||||
| 1. | Help a child develop a healthy self concept through positive guidance and discipline techniques in a loving, caring environment. | ||||
| 2. | Provide an atmosphere where toddlers can play individually and in a group and begin to learn social skills by learning to share and listen to each other. | ||||
| 3. | Encourage communication skills and language development by role modeling and speaking to children at their level. | ||||
| 4. | Give the children a love and respect for nature by providing opportunities to play and experience outdoors. | ||||
| 5. | Provide for each child's emotional and developmental needs as described in the following goals and objectives: | ||||
| a. | Physical development (gross and fine motor): | ||||
| Gross - Large muscle play - encourage climbing activities | |||||
| Physical movement - variety of physical movements | |||||
| Balance - become aware of obstacles that can create loss of balance | |||||
| Fine - Small muscle play - encourage manipulation of fingers | |||||
| Eye-hand coordination - encourage use of toys, books, and tools | |||||
| b. | Intellectual development: | ||||
| Language development - encourage speaking in clear sentences | |||||
| Problem solving - figuring out by exploring | |||||
| Personal growth - identify basic body parts and what each can do | |||||
| Reading readiness - encourage eye movement from left to right | |||||
| c. | Social development: | ||||
| Basic routine - following the same pattern daily | |||||
| Behavior skills - encourage good habits, discouraging bad | |||||
| Playing skills (alone and in group) - encourage social interaction and individual times | |||||
| d. | Emotional development: | ||||
| Create self confidence - encouragement of doing various items by themselves | |||||
| Allow choices - provide different areas to explore | |||||
| Encourage curiosity and self motivating - provide a cheerful, inviting atmosphere for play and work. | |||||
| E. | Some of the activities provided are: | ||||
| 1. | Physical: | ||||
| Gross: | sliding, climbing on climbing toys, ball play, playing games, dancing to records | ||||
| Fine: | coloring, pasting, using chalk easel, playing with blocks and puzzles, turning pages to books, playing with puppets, water and sand play | ||||
| 2. | Intellectual: story time, singing songs, puzzles / matching cards, arts and crafts, naming pictures, numbers, colors, and shapes | ||||
| 3. | Social: group games, arts and craft activities, quiet activity time | ||||
| 4. | Emotional: dressing and undressing of dolls and personal clothing, toilet training, selecting colors and shapes to use at play and work, creating colorful pictures for the walls and to take home | ||||
| F. | Conference forms are filled out by the teacher twice a year, in May and November. The parent is asked to sign a copy of the conference form which is then put in the child's file; a copy is also given to the parent. Time is set aside in May for a personal conference between parent and teacher, if the parent desires one. | ||||

| Child Initiated - housekeeping play, sandbox - outside, puzzles, looking at books, climbing on climber, sliding on slide, playing with dolls, cars, and trucks | |||||
| Activity centers included are: kitchen area, large block and large muscle area, arts and craft corner, small muscle toy shelf | |||||
| I. | This plan will be available for parents to review at all times. | ||||
| This program plan will be reviewed and evaluated annually by the Director and lead teachers. | |||||
